New Look 6793 & Ottobre 06/2009-3

Baby showers are such a great excuse to sew up something quick and fun. This was a nice palate cleanser after my dress.
These are two of my baby favorites, New Look 6793 and Ottobre 06/2009-3. All the fabrics are from my stash, and all but the polka dot cotton are left over from other projects.
Isn't the big button fun!? After I finished it, I thought it needed something. I considered making a fabric flower out of the interlock, but then I found this great vintage button in the stash. It's nice and big (therefore not a choking hazard) and it's actually a perfect color match for the tee IRL. Love it.
As I was putting on the band, I thought the contrast between the polka dots and the stripes was a little too stark. I hit up my trim box, thinking I would try to match the top, but I found this black jumbo rick rack and I knew it had to be. I'm usually not very good at that sort of extemporaneous embellishment, but all the stars aligned this time. I hope the new Mommy likes it. I don't really know her well, but there wasn't a shred of pink on either of her registries, so I thought this color scheme would be better. And I'll be honest - I love babies in black.

It's a cute outfit! It's nice to see a baby gift that's not an overload of pastels.:)

It's adorable, and the button and the rickrack both take it up that extra notch! I keep thinking I need to make up a bunch of baby stuff to have on hand for showers and things, because I'm never (so far) sufficiently motivated for individual showers. And I'm reaching the age where my cohort are popping children right and left (the slowpokes ;) ).

I, too, love babies in black. I may also have dressed my 18-month-old in black vinyl and a trench-coat, too, though, so my credibility may be questionable...

The whole outfit is adorable. I think the new mom should enjoy it very much. I still have every handmade gift anyone gave me for any of my children, because I cherish the love that went into their creation.

What a beautiful baby shower gift! The entire ensemble is adorable. I love all the detail work you put into it, the button, the contrasting hem, an the ric-rac. Lovely!

That is so cute, and it is great to be able to sew cute stuff for other babies so I don't have to have any more of my own :) You did a great job, your friend is very lucky.

I agree--I love seeing baby clothes that aren't typical pastels. This is an absolutely beautiful outfit. Mixing prints is so in style, and you have accomplished it, perfectly. Adding a little pop of color with the blouse, and what a color! Great job. I think Myra needs an outfit just like this.

That's a refreshing color combo. What a great idea to put babies in black. If I ever have a girl, I'll remember that as I'm pretty overwhelmed by the colors that are out there for girls.
