Happy Birthday!

My son celebrated his fourth birthday yesterday, but I got all the presents!!  (OK, maybe he got a few, but I know y'all aren't interested in the expansion of his Thomas the Train and Veggie Tales collections.)
My parents came for the day, which was great in and of itself, but Mom brought me a bag full of patterns that a friend of her's had given her!  They were left over from her garment sewing days, which appear to have been in the late 80s or early 90s...  There were a lot of cute kids patterns though.

Here is the haul.  Most of them won't fit my kiddos for a couple of years, but they've been waiting this long...

This one is my favorite.  I love the wrap pinafore.  It reminds me a little of an Ottobre.

Then we got the mail, and I got a package from Amber!

She had two copies of this sweet little pattern and she sent me one!  How sweet was that!!  Thanks so much for thinking of me!  My ultrasound is in two weeks, so I'll let you know then whether we'll be making the sweet little pink dress or the blue sailor suit...

Expo haul and burdastyle 02/2010-122 muslin

So, my mom and sister got to go to Expo this year.  Although I didn't get to go, mom was kind enough to do some serious shopping for me!

Clockwise from upper right - the modkids Kyoto top and dress pattern, cute owls and cupcakes flannel - soon to be more PJs for Myra, a couple of yards of a fun printed cotton - destined to be a full skirt for me, some Lightning McQueen twill tape - Logan's going to LOVE this!, and some cool jersey mesh printed with frogs and lizards.  I'll have to find a fun tee pattern for this one.

Mom also embroidered me a couple of tee towels.  Aren't they cute!?

Today also starts the Mini Wardrobe contest, and so naturally I'm kvetching about my choices!  I'm going to start with the jeans, since I'm very happy with my fabric and the pattern is already traced and altered.  But do I really want to make the capris or do I want a skirt??  A skirt seems so much more spring-y.  Of course, I have about 42 skirts in my closet, so I really don't NEED another one.  (Stay tuned for the one I just finished and will post tomorrow - LOL.)  And the all solid tops palette is making me a little grumpy still.  I'm thinking about swapping out the burdastyle top for a simple kimono sleeve tee in a fab print that I got at Gorgeous Fabrics.  I think I'll just make both tees and see which I like better.  Aaah!  Since I didn't want to start a new project yesterday, I decided to trace, alter and even muslin the burdastyle 02/2010-122 top.  I knew that I would need to seriously raise the neckline as well as FBA the upper bodice, so although I don't generally muslin knit tops, I thought all these changes deserved it - and boy am I glad I did!!

OK, done laughing?  I think I may have been a bit exuberant with my FBA...  At least I got the neckline pretty much figured out.  I  threw out that bodice pattern piece  and started over.  Muslin #2 is much better!

Best Mail Day Ever!!!

Yesterday morning I picked up a package from my mom.  In it was all sorts of goodies...

These pretty cotton prints from my Aunt Lil.  The one on the left is definitely going to become a vintage baby dress!

This was a Christmas present from my Dad that just arrived.  I love spinning out the holiday gift getting!!  I can't wait to make this.  It looks so fun.

And my Grandmother's pearls.  They were a wedding gift from Grandpa in 1951.  They are absolutely gorgeous and will be needing a Jackie O inspired suit to wear with them.  I have a great old vintage suit that needs a new lining, so I may start there, but I have such grand ideas...

Then, as if that wasn't enough, our mailbox was stuffed with all sorts of yummies!  

My sister knitted these absolutely beautiful socks, but they are a bit too small for her, so she sent them to me.  How great is that?!?  I'm sorry that they didn't fit her, but hey, I'm all about gorgeous hand-knit socks, especially since I can't knit my own yet.

Myra sent me these completely awesome 70s era patterns that I can't wait to dig into.  I love the 50s look, but I also have a not-so-secret love for bell bottoms and crazy floral prints.  Mitch thought that the print of the tissue would be a perfect fabric for the top dress and I think so, too!  Have you checked out Myra's Etsy shop?  She has some amazing patterns for very reasonable prices.

Last was a big box from my mom.  She sent the tees to go with the Valentine gear that I've been working on for Logan and Myra.  Aren't they cute?!?

Here's a closeup of the fun embroidery.  How cute is that?  Mitch was so relieved that they weren't girly.
I'd better get that skirt done!  You'll probably get to see it tomorrow...
