Stashbusting 2014

I'm so glad Cation Designs and EmSoCrazy are continuing the Stashbusting Challenge!! I definitely need it...
Y'all may remember my shelves from last year. Coming clean, I admit that they are a bit more full than they were then.
And there might be a few boxes lying around...
And maybe a "must sew soon!" pile on the table...
I did make an effort last year to keep my output the same as my input, but I was foiled by a good friend who brought me over 200 yards of fabric, most of it really nice stuff. What's a sewist to do???
My final end of year total were: Fabric In - 399 yards. Fabric Out (some of this was donated) - 354 yards. So, I was 45 yards positive for the year. This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but since we will be moving in about 6 months, I really have to do some reducing.
I, Katie of Kadiddlehopper, commit to use stash fabrics for at least 90% of my sewing this year. Starting today, I will purchase new fabric only to complete projects. I will also finish cleaning out my stash, and donate any fabrics that do not suit me (or others I sew for) in style, fabric or color.
Whew. That's a big commitment, but I think it is necessary. Once I am in my new sewing space (and I mean fully unpacked and moved in) I will probably reconsider this pledge, but it depends entirely on the space I will have.
I have some seriously awesome fabrics in here. They want to become clothes. They told me so.

I just showed your stash photo to my husband and he said, "You have more fabric than that." It's hard to tell, since I have mine stored differently... I have 5 or 6 rubbermaid totes plus a closet. Oof.

Good luck!

That is a lot to move! Only thing worse to move is books - and I have at least as many books as you do pieces of fabric.

I had to face the fact that I have more fabric than I think I do after cleaning out my sewing room to rearrange the furniture this weekend. I'm hoping I can get everything to fit (neatly!) back in my space by the time I'm finished. We shall see.

I think you can do it Katie. After all you would have had a stash reduction number if your friend hadn't destashed on you. Not that we mind friend!

Yes, I need to join you in this goal! Bust the Stash! Bust the Stash! My only problem... 2 big fabric store gift cards to spend. At the very least, you've inspired me to track my yardage in and out. Maybe I'll use my "lose 10 yards, get 2 yards" policy like I did this fall...

Wow! What a stash! I am the complete opposite when it comes to fabric stashes. I have a much smaller one, and usually buy only what I need; however, this last month I placed three orders online during different fabric sales, and I am seeing how it all adds up rather quickly!!

woah, that is a big stash you have there. ;-)
Looks beautiful though. I hope you meet your goal!

Wow - you have quite a stash! I think I need a "must sew soon" pile, too. Good luck on meeting your goal. I look forward to seeing what you make!

Good luck with that and stay away from the fabric sites...okay!!! Oh and about that 200 yard gift...ummmm you could have shared with some of your sewing friends, y'know what I mean!?!

You have such a high rate of production -- I can see you zooming through those fabrics! I too have made stash busting one of my goals . . . I now (I'm a reformed stash addict) try to not keep too much on hand BUT if I made all my clothes and my children (and sometimes Hubby) -- I think you need quite a selection to operate from. I can't wait to see all this stash fly out into projects!

What a great stash! It's great to have lots of options, but I hear you on the need to destashing when contemplating a house move! Hopefully you get a nice big sewing space in your new place

I showed these photographs to my husband this morning... he no longer thinks my stash is at problematic proportions - thank you! I can highly recommend Stash Diet 2014 (hosted by Andrea at Stitch Parade and Gail at Today's Agenda) plus we're having a swap to end all swaps on Flikr which has really made me rethink my stash and what I'd actually wear if sewn up.

You stash makes me feel better about mine. I just moved, and I've spent hours each day for the past week trying to refold and organize my fabric,I haven't made a dent. But, that's not a hindrance or a deterrent for me.I buy a lot of my fabric at estate sales, So, I have to take it when I can get it. And, that means having a stash of epic proportions.

Rylee picked the new butterflies over Bunny Good Night. Since she wore Rainbowphant yesterday I was ok with that. Mostly.

Katie Deshazer said...

Those butterflies were darn cute! I learned my lesson though - no fabric shopping while Myra is around. It's too expensive! ;)
