Butterick 4054

The first piece of my costume sewing extravaganza was Myra's Little Red Riding Hood dress.  I made this to go with her Little Red cape that I knitted.
The pattern for both dress and pinafore is Butterick 4054.  The fabric is cotton gingham and eyelet, both from Hancock's.  While I was making it, I had to keep reminding myself, "It's just a costume." so I didn't make it to my usual standard.  I did line the bodice, as the pattern had a bias tape finish at the neckline, which I don't really like.  I also used an invisible zip, but that is honestly just because I find them so much easier than other zipper applications.  I did not hand sew the hem or the lining down.  In fact, the only hand sewing was the hook and eye above the zipper.
Here is the dress without the pinny.  Not too exciting on it's own, although it has a nice shape and the collar is sweet.  The wrinkliness is in the front of the bodice is because my lining misbehaved and I decided I didn't care enough to rip it out and sew it down again.  It's just a costume, right?  Of course, I showed it to Myra, and she loves it.  It might be more that just a costume. I might be fixing that lining after all...

It really does look so sweet and pretty that it shouldn't just be used as a costume. They are only little girls once.

How. Cute. Is. That!!!! I wouldn't worry about the lining even if she does wear it as a regular dress (which by the way she should do!) because if she has the pinafore over it no one will know. Of course, if you are like me it will bug you till you fix it.
