Since one of my goals for this year was to participate in a
contest at
PR, I've been watching the contest threads and contemplating the offerings for this year. I thought about joining in on the lingerie contest, but I missed the boat for that one. I like the idea of the mini wardrobe though, and I think it is a good way to get my feet wet, so to speak. The requirements are to make 4 garments, all of which coordinate and which will create 4 distinct "outfits". All that has to be done in 4 weeks. Since I am jazzed about my jeans, they are going to be the central element in my wardrobe. I'm thinking of a "Blues" sort of theme, with all of my fabrics being in blue or purple. I did some pattern and fabric stash "shopping" and this is my preliminary lineup.
I know. Even Mitch thinks it's boring. Still, it's where I'm starting...

I'm thinking that I really need a print to break up the monotony of all those solids, but there isn't anything in my stash (at least, not that I could immediately uncover) that goes with this color scheme. Mitch suggested a stripe for the burdastyle top. That's how it is styled in burdastyle and it is pretty cute. I'm not sure I want to do a stripe though, since it has to go with my pinstripe. Of course, I could toss the pinstripe and make a flowy skirt... Maybe
this one in navy linen? Bleah. Another solid. What's a girl to do?? What do you think?

I really like your plan. I don't think it's boring at all. The pin stripe and the jeans add texture. Is embellishment allowed?
I like the fabrics you have in mind, but a print for the Burda top would open be nice...sounds like a good reason to go fabric shopping (wink! wink!) :)
I like your line-up too. I should really consider doing the contest. Maybe it would light a fire under my bum!
I think it's always a good idea wiht a mini wardrobe to do basics. However, ONE print in blue and lavender would be really pretty, right? Get thee shopping. (That is lavender, right?)
Prints are so hard - I rarely sew with them or even wear them - I much prefer solids... I don't think it's boring at all! Hope that helps!
I'm glad you're going for this contest. I always think about it but am intimidated by all the fabulous seamstresses at PR. I'll be watching your progress. : )
What a coincidence. I'm about to start my own mini-wardrobe-plan existing of 4 pieces. But I don't want/need the stress of a deadline right now.
If you feel up to it you should take part.
I like the colours of your fabrics and I believe that solids can be very interesting and look good together. And the pinstripe (which I like a lot by the way!) isn't actually a solid colour is it?

Good on you - that will be a fun and useful contest to enter since you get at least 4 wearable "looks" after it! I wish I could enter this contest, but there's no way I could make 4 garments in a month - you, however, I'm sure could make 4 garments in a week!
Solids would be fine because your patterns were interesting - not just plain T-shirts. Are you going to have a row of giant flowers going down your leg on the jeans??? Mercy!
I think stripes and pinstripes can go together, but really, solids in a mini-wardrobe is going to create the most versatile number of pieces.
Under normal circumstances i think I would enter the mini wardrobe and I even have a plan, but I will be out of town/crazy busy for two of the four weekends and there's no way I could get it done.
I have made a couple of sewn wardrobes, and find that solids or almost solids are the most versatile. A print looks good in the wardrobe photos, but more neutral pieces extend the real life wardrobe more effectively - unless of course the most gorgeous print that co-ordinates with everything pops out at you!

I love your choices! I'm thinking of entering too -- mainly because I already had fabric on the way to make a top/sweater set. So if I add two bottoms - voila! mini-wardrobe. And I could use it, seriously. You should definitely do it -- worst case, you miss the deadline but you've done a great job expanding and coordinating your wardrobe.
I like your color palette. I was gearing up to enter, then the formal dress popped up as well as still needing an easter dress and something to wear to a wedding this spring and well, I just don't have time anymore. :(
