Vogue 2463

My weekend project got buttons!
As a reminder, the pattern is Vogue 2463, published in 1990.
I made view C, with the square neckline and short sleeve.
I did remove 1/2 inch from the shoulder seam to omit the shoulder pad. I already have fairly broad shoulders, so a pad becomes a bit ridiculous on me. Otherwise, I cut a straight size 12 with no alterations. Not because I didn't need any, just because I was lazy and this was supposed to be a quick project. Fit-wise, it is a little big in the neck and shoulder area, although moving over the top button took care of the neckline gaposis I had. I could use a smidge more ease in the bust, so if I make it again, I'll do a small y-dart FBA. Maybe an inch or so.
How nice is that neckline, though? I love a square neck. Such a wonderful frame for a great necklace. Pretty and sexy without being trashy. Love it.
Inside, I serged the seams, and the neckline is faced. I drafted my own facings for two reasons. One, Mom had already cut the pattern to a different size, so I had to guess a bit at the neckline. Second, the facings as provided were really skimpy and I hate when facings flip out, so I made mine significantly deeper. You'll note the interesting taupe serging. Yes, I was afraid to change the thread on the Babylock. I know, I'm a big chicken.
I am so happy with my top! I don't really have any tops that tuck well and that I can also nurse in. I love the 80s/40s vibe this one has and it was so easy to sew. If you run across this pattern, and it isn't too dear, give it a go! You'll be happy you did!

On your serger cut the thread at the cones leaving extra length. Tie new thread to the "tails" with a strong knot and slowly pull the threads through from the presser foot. Too fast and they can break and too slow and they can have slack and cross over loopers and such. Make sure to stop pulling the needle thread when the knot hits the eye. I pull all threads at the same time. I've re-threaded my machine maybe once in two years and that was actually only one thread because my knot broke.

Super cute top! I love it - how perfect! I'm afraid to change thread on my serger (though I WISH it was a babylock:)). I must say you've done a great job - and fun pose!! Let's have more of those!

looks great, love the color and I do like a square neckline as well. Hmm I need to revisit some of my old patterns - might find a gem.

This is an awesome shirt! (Not quite awesome enough to overcome my hatred of the 90s, but enough to make me acknowledge that I love this particular 90s item.)

I love that neckline - I am searching those old boxes out in the garage to see if I have it. What size is yours, all I can find online is the smaller size.

I was just going to recommend the knot-tying method that Sascha explained. It's definitely easier than rethreading all the way.

That looks fabulous! I would have run a mile just from looking at the pattern cover, but if I see anything like that now I'll grab it. Lovely:)

The top is so pretty on you. I would have been scared off by the pattern envelope and the call for a shoulder pad - you have a good eye for updating patterns.
