Lust

Have you ever had a piece of fabric just grab you and make you take it home?

It happened to me today.  I've been eying this piece of wool coating at Hancock for many months now.  I'd walk by every time I was in the store and stroke it, imagining the beautiful jacket it kept whispering to me that it wanted to become.  I was there today for Vogue patterns (3.99!) and thread (Metrosene was 50% off) and I spotted it on the clearance table for 50% off.  I couldn't leave it there.  I think I'll spend this afternoon poring over my burdas to decide which jacket it will become.  In my head it is boxy with simple lines, but maybe it wants to be more tailored?  What do you think?
I picked up a couple of Vogues too, of course.

I love the sleeve on that Badgley Mischka jacket.  It says crisp cotton Spring jacket to me.

Ooo, they've had that coating at my Hancock's too and I'v totally avoided it since I have about ten pieces of unused coating in the stash. But that one is yummy (one of the few good things at Hancock's lately). I think more tailored, personally... not crazy-tailored but sort of shaped. Or maybe with tailored detailing... Maybe trench-coaty?

That fabric is gorgeous. I also vote tailored, but not too much - I think you want the fabric to really shine for this one. Good luck finding a good match. :)

I think that whatever style jacket you decide on will be great. I love that fabric!!! You are so little that you can wear any style.

I love houndstooth, and am currently working on one myself. I think it lends to most styles. You can't really go wrong.

I always liked Hancocks and was so sad when they left Michigan.

I have the Mischa B pattern. It's a UFO from the summer. I need to finish it up. Maybe seeing yours will inspire me!

I so wanted that fabric when I first saw it, but the next time I went to Hancock it was all gone! I can't wait to see what you make of it!

Gorgeous fabric, and yes, been there - done that! Can't wait to see what it turns into...

Oooh! I love houndstooth and that one is divine. It will make a great coat.

I love that Badgely Mischa pattern too, for the same reason! It looks like just the thing for spring... which feels so far off right now.

That's going to look fantastic!

A very striking jacket or coat. And for a bargain price too - that's just wonderful scoring.

(you probably already know this, but just in case you make the same mistake as me ... hound's tooth is actually a stripe so you need to match all your seams, .... a boxy style will work really well because princess seams can't be matched all the way - otherwise you may have some funny looking joins at the top)

Beautiful houndstooth! Better make it up before summer rolls around, eh?!
BTW - if ever you think of a vintage pattern, you'll wish to add OOP (out of print) to your acronyms....

OOOHHHH - I just love it!!!!!!! I can't wait to see your jacket! Wish I lived near Hancock's. It is probably good I don't, though.

That happens to me a lot too. In fact tomorrow I am going to sew up a dress for my daughter out of some corduroy that I contemplated for a couple of months. Finally, the bolt was getting low so I decided to get it because I knew I would regret if I didn't. I don't even think it was on sale. I just had to have it.

I love the fabric - I've been surrounded by it today - I've been at the Rose Bowl - and apparently, the late Bear Bryant, a famed Alabama Coach wore quite a bit of houndstooth. So, now - all the fans (especially women) wear houndstooth! Crazy to see it in your post today too. I love it and can't wait to see how you use it!

Who doesn't love a big houndstooth? I'd say a swingy coat without too many seams--matching houndstooth is as much trouble as matching plaid (I recently discovered to my chagrin).

That coating is gorgeous...one of the girls I work with bought a houndstooth coat this season, and I admire it daily. Good luck with your matching! I am sure it will be perfect!
