End of the line and I actually finished! Sort of. I had originally planned a trench coat as well, but as it warmed up outside, I just couldn't get myself motivated. I love the design though, so keep an eye out for it come fall.
Anyway, my 9 basics were:
1. Black slim pants - New Look 6082
2. Dark skinny jeans - Vogue 8330
3. White button down shirt - Vogue 8747
4. Black turtleneck - burdastyle 09/2010-121
5. Camel/Khaki skirt - McQueen knockoff
6. Tie Waist Sweater - MyImage W10/11 - M1003
7. Puffy Vest - Vogue 2657
8. Faux Fur vest - Simplicity 2149
9. LBD - Burda 7189
I have really gotten a lot of mileage out of all of these basics, and I'm really glad that I knuckled down and sewed them. I do have a tendency to sew "fun" things to the exclusion of wardrobe expanders like this. I don't want to overdo the "outfit" part of this, but the whole point was to see how many different looks can be combined from these 9 garments, so I'm including a few here. It's a fun opportunity to be creative with mixing, too!
Here are a few of my favorites.
There are a few more in my Flickr Set.
I vote for #2 in the top set; and #4 in the bottom one as my favourites.
ReplyDeleteBut, basically, I like them all!

ReplyDeleteI've been reading along as you've sewn this wardrobe and your end result is perfect! I know sewing basics are boring when there are so many other more fun pieces to be sewn but they are so useful in making your wardrobe work and grow! Great pictures and fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteWow! You did a great job! I am working on building my own wardrobe, and I only hope to have as much success as you have had!

ReplyDeleteLove the photo shoot! You really do get a lot of mileage out of these pieces. For all that I don't wear them, I think the pants are my favorite piece. They are so flattering!

ReplyDeleteAll that with kids sewing week, too! Very impressive. It's always good to add more basics to the closet, to go with those things we feel we just must have right now!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! And what a useful reminder to sew basics... Your blog is an inspiration, as always!
ReplyDeleteLots of sewing! I love Myra's sweet little dress in your previous post. Adorable!

ReplyDeleteLook at you - you look like a model! And those clothes are great - I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very fashionable wardrobe of basics and they look fantastic on you. I always enjoy seeing the wardrobes that sewists put together. The combinations of fabrics, patterns and styles that reflect their personal taste and life are fascinating.
