MMM, Day 23

Sunday go to meeting, and Mitch was working all day.  I made the mistake of wearing this dress, which is McCall's 6024.  The mistake is that it is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen, between the bodice that gapes and the front with insufficient wrap to cover the topic.  We made it through most of church before I gave up.  Two uncooperative kids and one uncooperative dress meant that I really wasn't getting anything out of it.  At least I got to sing a hymn and listen to part of a talk.  I'd call that a win under the circumstances.  And hey, I got to drive my fancy car!  I LOVE it!!

that dress may be a royal pain to wear, but it looks great when you're standing still like that! just try not to move... ;)

It looks great though! I love the ruffles. Maybe you can wear a slip under it?

It's very cute though. Could you use some sort of interior closure, like maybe an eye-and-hook or something like that? Shame to waste a perfectly cute dress.

It's still a really cute dress.

Hi, Just found your blog from a review you left for a Butterick skirt pattern on patternreview.com. I also have the McCall's 6024 and I just want to ask you a couple of questions about it. In your pic it looks like it is tied on the other side than the opening and on the envelope it shows it being tied at the opening... Did you do view B? Also, just wondering if you are LDS... Can you tell me what type of fabric you used? I plan on making view C. BTW the dress looks fabulous.

Thanks to all for suggestions and comments! I do love the look of this dress, and I'm still working out how to wear it so that I don't flash the world. I tried safety pinning the skirt so that it wouldn't flash, and that was a definite improvement (Thanks, beangirl!). I may add a hook and eye there.
Seven- I think I did put the sash opening on the "wrong" side, so mine does tie the other way. I've always had a problem with left vs. right... Since the dress is mostly symmetrical it doesn't really make a difference. I do have to thread the shorter tie through the side slit, but I actually think that is easier than trying to thread that whole long one through, so it worked for me. I did make view B, and I will say (yes, I am LDS) that modesty is definitely an issue. The skirt is too narrow and a bit short, so I find myself constantly adjusting it to cover the topic. I actually even made the ruffle wider in hopes of getting a bit more coverage, but it didn't really help. I think that if you added a little bit of flare to the skirt and maybe an inch or two in length (assuming you are my height, which is 5'6"), you would probably be fine. The bodice is actually pretty good as the pattern is drafted. The overlap is high enough to give you good coverage. I made my version out of a polyester silky georgette from Hancock, and I love how soft and flowy it is, not to mention easy to care for!

LOL at "cover the topic" - never heard that one before!
